Oil on Canvas 20" x 16"
This was a private commission for a pair of paintings featuring the top scoring pilots on Typhoons and Tempests. The brief was to create two paintings; both with a sepia feel similar to my earlier painting ‘Coming Home’. It was decided to produce the pair as a snap shot in time, showing how the two aircraft would have looked during November 1944.
The main image depicts Hawker Typhoon Mk 1B (PD521) of Wg Cdr J R Baldwin, OC No. 146 Wing based at Antwerp (B.70) during November 1944. His wingman being a Typhoon of No. 193 Sqn, also of 146 Wing. It was decided to show bombs on the rails of the second aircraft to highlight the various roles undertaken by Typhoon aircraft.
The image below depicts Hawker Tempest Mk V (EJ762) of Flt Lt D C Fairbanks, No. 274 Sqn, based at Volkel (B.80) during November 1944.
